The pair who previously dated back in 2008 got back together last year when Ruby appeared in The Veronicas' steamy video for single "It was the last thing I expected to happen but when you're involved in something you're both passionate about it's not unusual to become attracted," she says.
"We're now the people we wished we were back then." Ruby admits that she finds the attention on her love life difficult at times.
"We just reconnected over doing this video, she wrote and directed it, and is in it with us and we just sort of fell in love." “We support each other in our careers and we support one another and be there.
It made sense to be able to come out on that level because we want to be there in each other’s lives on a public level.
"It's just a crazy thing when you care about someone for so long and then you have the chance to be able to reconnect.
Now we are quite protective of what we have, so obviously being able to be open enough but keeping a lot of it for yourself is something that we're very conscious of and I think it just depends on the people what you're willing to share," Jess explained.
The most frustrating thing about it is people go, “They’ve set it up, they have a new album out, it’s so contrived.” We’re not the ones writing this.
To think people think we would bother putting our time into this.
Meanwhile Jess' sister and bandmate Lisa confessed she wasn't at all surprised that her sibling had reconnected with Ruby and the couple have her blessing.
"From the beginning I've always seen the chemistry and the connection there. So obviously I'm like yeah babe, obviously you two are in this," Lisa told.
